Manuel Fernandez and wife, Lillie, with Madeline "Minnie" Fernandez on Thanksgiving Day, 1931, the year before her death. She was born in the City of Lafayette, Jefferson Parrish, Louisiana on May 5, 1853. The town was incorporated into New Orleans in 1854 and finding records has been unsuccessful. The family came to Galveston when Minnie was a girl. They probably fled the Civil War. Minnie had two sisters, Mary Louise (1851-1935) who married Achille Isadore Infernaisse and Frances C. (1863-1936) married Albert Berger and lived in Houston. The 1930 census shows Frances as a widow and living next door was Joseph Fernandez Jr. and family. Minnie lived with son, Manuel and his wife Lillie in 1917. By 1920 she was living with daughter, Cecilia and her husband James Smith at 1528 Ave G. in Galveston. By 1930 she lived alone at 1122 Ave I rear and that's where she died on October 29, 1032.
Cecilia Fernandez's sister, Matilda. Daniel Traverso III remembers visiting "Aunt Tillie" as a small child with his grandmother, Inez Smith Traverso, Matilda's niece.
