Maria Rosa Perfumo

This is certainly a picture of Rosa Puppo's mother, Maria Rosa Perfumo who married Stefano Puppo. The photo was made in a studio in Sanpierdarena, which today is central northern part of Genoa, Italy and in the late 19th century was a fishing village 4 kilometers north of the city. This probably dates from the 1880s and was sent to her youngest daughter in Texas.

Young Rosa Puppo

Definitely a photo of young Rosa Puppo, born near Genoa, Italy April 1, 1852. She came to Louisiana and then to Galveston, Texas in 1871. Several brothers and an older sister had earlier immigrated to New Orleans and Galveston. This picture probably is before her marriage in 1875 to Peter S. Traverso, Sr. and the young man in the photo is probably one of her brothers. Rosa died in Galveston on December 10, 1923. She was living her final years in Galveston with her youngest child and only daughter, Rosa Callixto Traverso Faust.
